Established circa 1960 by Carmine Raviele, Il Gatto Nero is family owned and is situated in the heart of Little Italy, in Toronto.

Il Gatto Nero opened its doors at 653 College Street and stayed there for approximately 20 years. It made a new home at 656 College Street for 18 years, and in March of 2002, found a new home at 720 College Street.

Mrs. Raviele would make veal sandwiches, veal pizzaiola and sausages. Her husband would come in and work the bar and serve the food. In February 1999, the bar took on a transformation and added a new bar and kitchen. Since then, the menu has grown with a variety of dishes and daily specials - and Sam and Ross were hired as Gattos first employees.

Famous for its espresso, the best in the city, Il Gatto Nero has served the Italian community and neighborhoods and is a landmark on College Street.

Sunday mornings you can catch Italian soccer or Formula One racing, playoff hockey and a variety of other sports on the big screen and several tv's. Il Gatto Nero also hosts a variety of events, takes reservations for parties and has a large outdoor patio.

Whether you're looking for great food, impeccable service, a friendly crowd, or a great cappuccino - Il Gatto Nero is definitely the place to find all of them.
